FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:

Race Directors Announce First Elite Entries for Hoka One One Long Island Mile

South Huntington, NY - August 25, 2015 As excitement builds for the inaugural HOKA ONE ONE Long Island Mile, race directors Kyle Merber and Brendan Barrett have revealed some of the names of the professional runners that will toe the line at St. Anthony’s High School on September 9th.  The elite field will be the capstone to an evening of community races, providing an opportunity for local runners to compete on the same track as some of the best milers in the world.

The all-comers races will begin at 7:00pm and lead into the professional women’s race, which will see the gun go off at 8:30pm. For the grand finale, the men’s race will feature co-meet director, and Huntington, NY native, Kyle Merber. Merber has paired with his shoe sponsor, HOKA ONE ONE, and Brendan Barrett, owner of local running shops Sayville Running Company and Smithtown Running Company, to host the event in his own backyard.

Merber has high hopes for the event, but knows he is not alone. ‘The support of the community has been unbelievable, and so many people have stepped up to help bring our vision into a reality. I believe this meet could have a hugely positive impact on all of Long Island’s runners, and most importantly connect the road runners and high school athletes with the professional scene.’

Barrett has been working the frontline, and confirms that there is a palpable energy surrounding the race. “People come into the store every day and ask me, ‘Who’s coming?!’, and there are rumors flying around about which pros will be making their way out to Long Island to race in front of our home fans. I’m glad we can officially announce some of the commitments we have.”

With the race less than 3 weeks away, the meet directors are finally ready to release the names of the first batch of runners that will be competing in the professional fields.

He is originally from Salinas, CA and is now sponsored by Adidas.
